The Digicel Foundation Begins Handing Out 20 for 20 Grants

In celebration of 20 years of doing business, Digicel Jamaica partnered with Digicel Foundation to provide 20 grants to community-based projects across the island nation. The grants are valued at J$650,000 each, and organizations could apply through their local Digicel dealer stores.

The grant recipients were selected by Digicel dealer partners in conjunction with community members. The money will go toward supporting initiatives to enhance the community and individuals from varying age groups and backgrounds.

The first grant recipient to receive a cheque was the Cacoon Primary and Infant School. The school applied for a grant through UG’s Better Buy, the operator of the Lucea Digital Store. They plan to use the grant to spruce up the school property and build a playing field for the students.

Antoinette Riley, principal of the Cacoon Primary and Infant School, noted, “Our focus is teaching and learning, but students will learn better in an

environment that feels like a safe haven and is comfortable – they will have that drive to come to school and learn more…I’m excited because the funding for a school is never adequate. When we can get funding from a corporate entity like the Digicel Foundation, it just makes me feel elated.”
