The Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Foundation and the Ministry of Sport and Community Development launched the Perseverance Village, Chaguanas Community Internet Café. The internet café is accessible to community members at the St James de Just Spiritual Baptist Church. Digicel also committed to providing the internet cafe with 12 months of free high-speed internet broadband service.
Perseverance Village is one of five communities selected in a pilot study as part of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development’s National Policy for Sustainable Community Development Initiative. The National Policy for Sustainable Community Development Initiative aims to encourage citizens to take collective responsibility for the development of their respective communities.
The Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Foundation has contributed to many sustainable community development projects over the last nine years. The foundation has also worked to improve opportunities for persons with disabilities in local communities. In 2021, the Digicel Foundation adopted Perseverance Village as part of the Ministry’s initiative. Under this, the foundation has committed an investment of TT$177,000 to projects in Perseverance Village. Besides the installation of the internet café, the foundation will also construct a Hydroponics System and upgrade the Hugo Francis grounds.
